Optical drive cd-rw stopped working...

As I was erasing a cd-rw with my MSI 48x24x48, after a few minets a window appeared on the screen saying could’nt erase rw-disc, then I tried to eject but it was’nt responding,so I had to restart my pc to eject, now the problem is that the drive is not reading and not working at all. ANY IDEAS... (Software nero oem 6, OS win xp pro sp2, pc p4)

Try uninstalling the drive in Device Manager and then rebooting; Windows should Find New Hardware and reinstall the basic CDROM driver.

If this doesn't work then the laser may well have packed up.

New DVD rewriters, which also write to CD media, are very cheap these days and CD-RW rewriters can be bought for around £12-£15.
