OpenOffice download - do I need JRE?

  funkey_monkey 20:21 23 Mar 06

I'm downloading OpenOffice 2.0.2 from their download site and I am asked whether I want it with JRE or without.

I assume that JRE is Java Run-time Environment, correct?

Do I need to download the JRE as well and will it do any harm if I download it to my machine?

I am running on Win XP MCE as present. However, I've no idea as to whether I have JRE anlready on this machine.

What should I do?

Goto Control Panel/Add Remove Programs, look for J2SE Runtime Environment 5 Update 6 (the very latest version). If you have an older revision you may want to remove your current one and install the latest click here
It won't do any harm

You don't need jave installed for office to work, but it can add functionality to it.
