I use Launchy to open links in Thunderbird which point to either Opera or Firefox. It will work in Firefox to point to either OE, Outlook, or any other email client. click here

It is in the Firefox extensions, but the site seems to be down at the moment.

A little script file has got to be written for each application you want it to point to, this site will help click here someone will read this and tell you what the path is to open Outlook, sorry I can't help with this one as I don't run Windows.

Copy and paste the text it generates into a text editor like NotePad and save as launchy.xml then follow the rest of the instructions at the bottom.
