Opening files in Excel 2002

  Mead 12:32 09 Jul 04

If I try to open an Excel file by clicking on it, the Excel program starts but the file itself(workbook) does not appear in the main window. The background is grey, with no gridlines. Neither the 'normal' view or 'pagebreak preview' buttons are operational.

If I run the program first and then open a file using 'file/open' or the button for opening files there is no problem at all.

Has anyone any suggestions, please?

It may be something to do with file associations, what O/S are you using?

Try running Detect and Repair from the Help menu in Excel.

I am using Windows XP Home.

I have tried the detect and reapir facility without success.
