Opening Files

While I have recovered some of my missing/lost date using as Drive Rescue & Restoration. I find that I am unable to open the files on the .doc files when opened they look like this “a r p Øÿÿÿvk”
Jpg & Bmp when opening them in Microsoft Office Picture Manager all there is a red “X” in the centre, can you open dbx files with Windows XP

Are these files corrupt have I lost them for good?

Something middling awful must have happened first, though you don't say what.

Just for fun...... if you have Word 2000 or later.
Try opening a .doc file with "Recover text from any file" in the dropdown <Files of type> selector in Word.

dbx files sound like a database. Did you use Access?

dbx files are Outlook Express folders and you would need to Import them into OE.

Alternatively you can go to click here
and download a FREE program called OEVIEWER which will allow you to read .DBX files wherever they are.
