Open Ports

  Johny C 22:39 05 Mar 04

I have just done a security check on my system from symantec, and it has listed a couple of ports which are open, Is there anyway i can close these ports.

I am running Nortons Internet security and its been updated. so i am under the impression that this would close any open ports.

Hope somebody can help

Cheers John

Hi Johny C. I'm no expert on this subject, but my understanding is that the opening and closing of ports is controlled by your software applications. The only way you can have any control is by using a firewall. In this way you have can give or refuse permission for the applications to have access to the internet.

you need to find what apps is using the ports that are open.

what are the port no.s?

try click here click proceed and run the file sharing and commom ports tests for more"look up specific port info" to find out what may using specific ports and how to close them etc.

may help a bit.
