I currently use Open Office, however, I have read that LibreOffice is a replacement for OO.

My questions are do I need to load and use LibreOffice and would it possible to continue OO or is it to be discontinued?

Simple question with a complex answer, Read this for the low down on the split. Short answer is that OpenOffice has been though a rough patch, but is now under new ownership and development of the next generation is underway. That said many of the original developers jumped ship to form LibreOffice and are unlikely to go back to join Apache. So we now have two very similar products following slightly different paths, make your own choice.

Many thanks Belatucadrus, somehow I didn't pick up that article in my earlier troll through Google. Informative, yet at the same time the article seems indecisive as to the future.

OO works for me at the present, therefore I shall stick with it: however, I will down load LibreOffice just to have a look and feel.

Again many thanks,
