Open a File

  Spr 10:57 13 Apr 15

Trying to open a photograph of my own I’m told. “Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item”

Why does this happen & how do I get around this problem.

  1. windows loses track of the files location

  2. the file does not have a program associated with it suitable to open it

  3. the file belongs to an account other than your own and you do not have permission to use it. - run as administrator will solve this problem

I had exactly the same problem and it is all to do with ownership of the file which becomes corrupted. You can regain ownership sometimes by following the advice in the following site:-

click here that fails, and it did with me, you can add a 'Take ownership' command to the context file by going to the following site:-

click here is the only thing that actually worked for me.

Good luck!

This site is crap for posting links but I think you will be able to understand my post above.

Pine Man, your second link is a handy little add on. Now put it on my PC, thanks.

Pine Man, if you type at least 3 spaces after you've pasted link in, the next word will not be jumped down to end of post by pca formatting. (Found out by trial and error ;))
