online database search

Hi, folks
Following a virus alert (win95 spaces) and some ensuing repair work I seem to have developed a problem using databases online. It has occured using log ons (some no longer retaining username e.g. library card when they were previously), registration, using mapquest or even searching the PC advisor discussion forum. As well as not retaining form data (yes, the IE options are set appropriately) there is a long delay if I use the tab key to navigate from one field to another sometimes even freezing, ditto clicking in the next field. Its almost as if someone is intercepting or shadowing what I'm doing though I do have a functioning firewall. I'm using IE6 on Win98. No previous problems of this sort. Any ideas what's going on and what I can do to resolve?

Have you tried repairing IE

Yes. It's made no difference.
