"Help & Support...error log"

Service Control Manager

The OMSCAN service failed to start due to the following error: The system cannot find the file specified.

My OS is XP Home, and fairly recently(I hadn't noticed it on previous installs)within the last couple of months, this error has appeared.I ran it thru google, but got zero results(in english)click here or anything that appeared to indicate what was causing it.

Anyone know what OMSCAN is?

My (very) old HP scanner uses Caere Omnipage OCR. This sounds like the sort of application that could well have a file called OMSCAN.

check if omscan is running as a service

Note: Back up registry before attenpting this.

Open regedit and goto the following key:

Scroll down to OMSCAN and delete that key.

The error will no longer appear in the event viewer

The service is then removed from the computer and will not write the error
to the event viwer. This shouldn't cause any problems as the error about not
finding a file meant the service wasn't running anyway.
