Old versions of downloaded software

I've just updated to version 4 of firefox and have noticed that I've got old versions of Firefox and other software such as Java cluttering up my PC. Can I safely delete them?

Instead of just deleting them, try uninstalling them first.

If they don't uninstall (i.e. no means to do so in Add or Remove Programs), I would reinstall then uninstall them via Add or Remove Programs.

I would keep Java though. G

Thanks. The old stuff is in the downloads file. So I've gone ahead and deleted them. It looks OK in the programs file accessed by "Remove programs", apart from Update 4,5 and 7 of Java which I've left alone.

Not a problem all that you have deleted is the setup files that were just taking up space on your system and they were outdated anyway.

I believe the advice for Java is to uninstall all old versions as security holes will remain open. Only recently does the new version uninstall the previous one.

Thanks again. I will uninstall the old versions of Java.
