Does anyone know how i could transfer my invaluable collection of old tapes onto my computer. Is there a way, or will i be reduced to carrying a suietcase full of tapes with my walkman around with me?

At its simplest, connect the output (headphones) or extension speaker, to the Line in socket on the soundcard, this is close to the speaker output on the back of your computer.

Many sound cards have the ability to record as part of their software, but you can download a nice little freebie called Audacity, which will allow some editing. Save all these tracks as .wav files and assemble your own compilations to burn to a CD.

The simple way:

play the tapes on the tape player

use the "line out" to connect to the "line in" on your sound card (using a double ended lead - easily available).

Record with, eg, audacity from click here
