Old floppy = no files

I had some old documents stored on a floopy which I haven't looked at in a few years (personal stuff, poems that kind of thing) and went hunting for it, couldn't find it. Then lo and behold it turns up unexpectidely. When I put it in the drive though it says it has not been formatted. The files were originally written in Word perfect and then converted to Word files later. My notes on the disc record the date as 1998 and Word 2000. Any ideas how I can retrieve this data or is it gone forever?

Have a look at a free program called Flopshow; I have found it very good.
