Old Dell Laptop format advice

I have an old Dell Latitude Laptop Computer which threw a wobbly recently
The OP System was Windows 98 and the problem was that it would boot up to the Windows 98 screen and the wavy bar at the bottom would show that it was loading but it just stuck there with the bar continually moving

It would not boot up even in safe mode so I decided to format it
I managed to Format the C drive and I have an old Win 95 disc and I would like to install this.

When I try and boot up with this disk it informs me it is not a valid disk is this because the disk originally came with my first Computer and would only work with that one ,although it doesn’t state on it that it is an OME version..

Do I have to configure the drives so that it will boot up from the CD drive if so how do I do this?
Any advice would be most welcome
Ray

Do you have a floppy drive?

As far as I know, win95 is not a bootdisk. Win98 or later is.

You need to boot with a floppy which has CD rom support and take it from there.

Laptops' BIOS are often configured to only recognise the manufacturers recovery CD. You may need one of these to overcome this:

I downloaded the Boot disk for win 95b as I have the cd rom for this
I booted up using this and got the following

Starting Windows 95

CD-ROM Device for IDE 4 Cannel Support
Driver Version
Device name Bannana
No drives found Aborting Installation

Device driver not found: BANNANA
No Valid cdrom device drivers selected

A:\>

Any advice on this or should I just get the one advertised on e-bay
Cheers Ray

You need a win98 boot disk as this will have CDRom drivers - you can still install win95 using the win98 floppy.

When booted, type

d:\setup

OR MAYBE

e:\setup

which will launch the setup process from the Win95 CD.
