Old Adobe readers

  six-h 16:25 11 Sep 07

My PC came with Abbey FineReader 5.0 sprint, for OCR apps. with the scanner.
For reading pdf's Acrobat Reader 5 was supplied.
Some time after, I was prompted to D/L Adobe Reader 6.0, and more recently again prompted to upgrade to Reader 7.0
Acrobat Reader 5 is still there, but Adobe reader 6.0 has been overwritten by Adobe Reader 7.0 which by the way is immediately prompting me to get reader 8.0!
Question, Is Acrobat Reader 5 something different to the Adobe Reader software? or can I safely delete it?
Also do I really need to swap reader 7.0 for reader 8.0?

You should be able to uninstall AR5 without affecting AR7. If you do suffer probs, you could try uninstalling AR7 and re-installing it (or AR8).

As for AR8 itself, you don't have to migrate to it, although I would guess that Adobe would claim it is more secure.

And, yes, they are all just versions of the same app.

I was just a bit thrown by Reader 5 being labeled "Acrobat", and Reader 6 being labeled "Adobe Reader"
I'll bin reader 5, and tidy up my Desktop..:-)
