Official Microsoft e-mail query

  CurlyWhirly 21:21 02 Aug 05

After voluntarily signing up to Microsoft's newsletter as shown in click here I am just curious as to why they choose to display a lot of numbers and letters before the part?

Is it some sort of anti-phishing tactic or is it there so that you can instantly recognise that it is an 'official' Microsoft e-mail while spotting it in your in-box?

Just curious.

Possibly because it is NOT from MS.

Looks like a phishing e-mail to me.

Crikey, that's probably the third that I have had since subscribing to Microsoft a few months ago!

Strange very strange.

Several clues on it to my mind:

The date 02/08/2005 - that is the way we write dates in the UK. But the Yanks, for unknown reasons, put month, day, year. MS are a Yank company unless I'm greatly mistaken. ;-)

The time "GMT Daylight". We're in BST. What is "GMT Daylight"?

I subscribe to most MS mailings and I haven't seen one like this.

I get ALL my e-mails displaying this wording so it must be related to AOL.

Jackcoms, doub;e click on your clock and all will be revealed.

  Jackcoms 21:50 02 Aug 05

Point taken.

Stupid Americanism! What's wrong with BST? :-))

I still believe that CurlyWhirly's e-mail is not a genuine MS e-mail.

So it's a Microsoft thing then and I thought it was related to AOL. Dunce hat on for me!

I will use the search option and see what I can find.
I will tick this as resolved as it *does* indeed look like a fake e-mail.

Thanks VoG™

I was just curious as like I said before I have had a few of them since registering with M$ and these seem to look different from 'normal' e-mails.
