I have a 3com model 3CRWDR100A wireless router/asdl modem.
My problem is I can get it to work wirelessly but can not get it to use the wired connection to access the router so that my main pc has the faster connection.

Thanks

Has your P.C network card been disabled?

  derekwilliams 16:24 26 Mar 06

no my pc card is functioning and status is 'connected' but activity is zero packets sent or received

How was your router setup in the 1st place? That would have required a wired connection.

PC's s/w Firewall settings preventing access?
Router's MAC address filtering does not include main PC?

A lot more info, please.

Settings from ipcconfig, but my wired connection does not show up.

Is that for just one Laptop/Desktop?

It shows both a wireless and a wired (Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection 3:) connection being active and live, having been allocated 2 different IP address;
192.168.1.2 (wireless) and 192.168.1.4 (wired).

Having both active will confuse Windows;
I suggest that you disable the wireless (via Device Manager) when you are trying to connect via an Ehernet wire.
And vice versa, when connecting wirelessly.

Many thanks that has helped I assume disabling the wireless on my pc will not disable the wireless router function.

Thats absolutely correct.
To change anything on the router, you will need to login via its WEB config page (something like 192.168.n.1 into a browser's address field).

  Danoh 11:44 27 Mar 06

Sorry; it will be 192.168.1.1 (shown in your post above, if only I did not do such a quick snap-reply! :-)

You seem to have exactly the same trouble as I had with my 3Com router (same model number). You can see my thread 'PC works when wireless but not hard-wired' posted on 15.3.06.

click here

After lots of diagnostic checks, it came down to either the router or the ethernet cable was at fault. The kit was eventuall returned and refunded. I ordered another one (exact model, because I didn't want to spend time learning how to set up a different one) which came last week. I set it up yesterday, and all seems fine -- my main PC can get either wired or wireless connection through the router. Hope you might get some ideas from my thread linked above.
