Office 2003 versus Office 2010

A friend of mine has just installed Office 10, which I believe should more accurately be described as Office 2010. Multi page spreadsheets prepared in Office 2003, of certain finances I look after for him, display without lines or columns on his machine. Can anyone throw any light on this please?

Thanks Nontek! That application works the other way round, ie spreadsheets prepared in a newer version of Office will need this in order to read spreadsheets with an older version of Office.

Thanks too to you Zak, but if the lines and columns are already on the spreadsheet being sent, then they should appear when downloaded onto the recipient machine.
