hi guys and gals, I run win98se and have office 2000 installed, just recently when i access word i get the following error message...."the office assistant could not be started.please repair the assistant by running office 2000 setup and selecting repair office 2000"..i have done this and it appears to go through the motions but does not repair the fault.

Does anyone have any thoughts on how i may solve this annoying problem.

Go to the download section of and do a search for "Eraser 97" which is a tool to remove all traces of Office 2000, i.e reg entries and program files.

Then remove and re-install and everyhting should be just hunky dory!

If you don't particularly want it, try disabling the assistant and see if the problem disappears

Bigmofot & AndyJ.....

Thanks for both your rapid responses, problem solved AndyJ by enabling "virtual memory".

All up and running now.

Many thanks
