Office 2000 ODBC error

Although I've resolved this problem, I'd love to know what caused it so I can be wise next time.

When I was in Word I wanted to use help which appeared OK, but when I clicked on a subject it said it wanted to install, it asked for SR1 disk, which I duly feed into the machine, towards the end of the installation this window appeared:

Error 1916 Error installing ODBC Driver manager, ODBC 0: Contact your support personnel.

I have uninstalled Office, then reinstalled it back and everything is now working normally.

The only thing I've done recently is install 98lite which I removed a lot of Windows rubbish, this of course could be a red herring because all the other applications have been running fine.

O/S is Win 98se cut down using 98lite.
