OEM CPU, Sticker on CPU???

Hi all,

I just recieved my new OEM CPU via mail order, P4 3.06 FSB533 Northwood.

This may sound like a silly question but there's a sticker on the underside of the CPU just over the core. It says:

"Warrenty Void if" and then cuts off. It looks like it may be half a label.

Here's a pic click here

Now I would usually assume i'm meant to remove it???

Thanks all.

Is does indeed look like the left half of a sticker.

But normally stickers say:

"warranty void if removed"

or

"remove before use"

However, does seem in a place on a CPU, that I would not expect to see a sticker. Perhaps phone the supplier and ask for clarification?

Thanks. ;o)

You should not remove the sticker, as it's done for those who overclock P4 chips

I am sure Woodchip is right, but why only half a sticker?

Can't Intel afford to get a sticker that actually fits printed?

How hard to get it to say:

"warranty void if removed"

rather that

"warranty void if" rest cut off, so you dont have a clue.....

...that because i've never come across this before it looks odd.

It came in a little brown cardboard box, sandwiched inbetween 2 peices of sponge, no even any anti-static wrap. Is that normal also???

I'm getting paranoid, wondering whether it's tampered with.

Where did you get it from?

as they're closed now.

sponge is anti-static. It is correct, the sticker covers contacts that overclockers use a soft lead pencil on to restore print between contacts, so it work at faster speed

This trick was used often in the Past on the top of AMD chips but they altered them so it could not be done
