OEM CD001 error & FDISK gives error: Explanation ?

Friend bought his computer round for me to see if I could find out which drives are Kaput.

If booting up PC it stops at the A: wanting a Floppy.

If I use a Win98Se Boot floppy Disk and Win98Se CD it says "No valid CDROM Device Drivers selected"

Then If I go for the FDISK from floppy it says No Fixed Disk present.

I have Changed the DVD & CD WRtr and same result.
I haver also just tried another HDD and all the same errors again.

The Factory Restore Disk will not work.

So I am am major confused if its another Dead HDD I have tried, Or a faulty Motherboard.

Any suggestions please.

Remove Cdrw & DVD drive cables & power cables Make sure the Hard drive is on IDE0 & check bios is pointing to that device on the correct channel (select auto for all of them )& boot from the floppy then fdisk if it fails then check cables are correctly seated (or replace)& try again..

dissabled the IDE Primary Master & Secondary drives in the BIOS. Put these onto Auto and all boots up nicley.
