OE. Sent messages received as code ??

Help please anyone....desperate now!

W 98Se OE5, and generally no problems, BUT, every now and again I send an e-mail to someone new , and my message appears as code to them........like : ÿþ tl .>DmAp555I/ .....or "ÿþ tl DIVV /"

One chap said this was on a public computer as well as his own home PC.
I'm sure it's some simple OE setting that's at fault, but I can't find it, and this problem has bugged me for years.

Any help will be really appreciated.

Just realised that I posted this same problem over a year ago!
Thought I'd cracked it then, but obviously not!
I really don't want to upgrade OE, but will if I have to.
Was wondering though, if I do upgrade, can I keep all my .dbx files and just copy them into my new OE6 identities directory, or does the up-grade do all that for me?

If you upgrade to six it will save all your settings including .dbx files, address books, multiple identities etc.
