I left a post on here a few weeks ago 'Irractic usb behaviour'

My problem now is not related to just usb, when viewing folders on desktop (XP), say change from detail to thumbnail, the folder freezes and the whole computer locks up. When I went back to an older ghost image the problem is not there. Virus scan is clear, there have been a lot of windows downloads lately, but I am sure I had this problem some time ago and it went away.

Do you remember if you installed any hardware or software before it started? Have you considered spyware/malware/adware?

If you have not considered the latter I would suggest getting something like "spybot search and destroy" and giving that a try.

try a system file check

Start > Run > in the box type
sfc /scannow
click on OK
*note there is a space between c and /
You will probably need your XP CD and put it in when it prompts for it.

Hello again,

I have scanned with Spybot and Adware which came up with nothing.

Have run that sfc /scannow and I loaded the XP disc and after it completed rebooted, will check over next few days to see if any difference.

This is now fixed with sfc /scannow. Many thanks.
