Nvidia driver corrupting system

I upgraded my Forceware driver from 162.18 to 169.21 after deleting in Remove Software.

On windows startup I got the install wizard looking for SM Bus Controler, which it couldn't find on the XP disk and I was unable to connect to the Internet.

So I had no Bus Controler and no internet connection and had to do a restore which was OK except I now have the old drivers.

Is this a known problem and how do I upgrade the graphics drivers?

It is a known problem. I never update Nvidia drivers any more. This happens just too often to risk it.

I upgraded to Ver 169.21 in Dec 07 with no problem.

Thanks for the replies. I was having trouble with some software (a game) and the first question always asked is "have you got the latest drivers?" so these seem to be a cure all.

I may give it one more go.
