NTLDR is missing

I get this error at startup on my laptop :

NTLDR is missing
Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart

I've tried going into the recovery console to replace ntldr and ntldetect.com

I've also tried fixboot and fixmbr

However I still get the same error message at startup. Any suggestions please?

I've tried everything there.

Now when I try to copy ntldr I just get the message "The file could not be copied"

Go to the website of the manufacturer of your Hard Drive - they will have
a free diagnostic application that you can run to check your HD for errors.

It could be on it's way out!

If you have nothing important to recover I would slap XP in and start over.Research and repair on this can be VERY time consuming.

I know this is not the answer your looking for or some will say is not the right action, but it will get you back up most likely in less time than trying to recover.

Always back up !!!!

You will be able to boot the computer by creating the boot floppy- it will boot into Windows and you can then backup your files.
