I am just about to buy a new computer, and would be grateful if anyone could advise me about the file system, should I go for NTFS or FAT and I gather it will be FAT64. I keep reading bits about both and don't know what the advantages are the one over the other? Some guidance would be appreciated.

You dont need any guidance or to worry, I assume your PC will come with Windows 7 preinstalled so will be NTFS.

Even if your installing your own copy of Win 7 it will format as NTFS.

OK thanks for that - but why the different systems? what does one have over the other?

Fat wastes Disc Space but runs faster than NTFS, and it shows more on a low speck system
