Sometimes when I turn my new pc on it says it needs to check disk NTFS for consistancy, what does that mean?

It thinks there is a problem with one of your drives.

What Operating System, Vista, Windows 7?

Windows 7. The same thing used to happen on my old laptop which was also an acer but XP

Let it run once and then it shouldn't ask again.

This usually happens sometimes when one doesn't shut down the PC properly - are you always doing this? Are you saying it happens at random? G

On the old one it happened if I didn't shut down properly, on this one it has happened when I have shut down properly.

Similar problem at click here suggests running a sfc /scannow (click here if you need to know how). I don't think System Restore will solve it.

Also see 'Check Disk - Disk Checking Runs Upon Boot' & the following paragraphs at click here. Relates to XP specifically, but the same may apply to Win7. G
