NTFS corrupting WMP ?

I have 2 hard drives one fat32 the second for data NTFS. When playing back video snippets downloaded from the net on WMP9, the files stored on the NTFS drive break up. If I transfer the file to the fat 32 hard drive and play it back from there it is perfect. In all other respects the NTFS data file hard drive performs as it should.
Any ideas what is causing this corruption?
OS is XP home.
