my son-in-laws comp packed up after installing a new cd rewrite drive, modem and moving it to another room.On sreen he gets "Windows was unable to process the registry. This may be freed by rebooting in command prompt and running scanreg/fix.Otherwise there may not be enough free conventional memory to properly load the registry".He cannot get the "command prompt" to reboot in.Windows sort of partially loads but you cant do anything, the start button does not function, all his icons are missing,"my computer" is there but when u click on it u get "Your current security setting prohibits running activeX controls on this page as a result the page may not display correctly.

Boot with the WinME disk in the drive (ensuring that the BIOS is set to boot first from CD) and reinstall windows ME.

To boot to the command prompt, keep pressing (not a contiuous press) the F8 key when booting, and you should get a menu with Command Prompt onit.
