Hi all,

I have posted on this before, but I had no answer to this never ending problem.

I am considering buying a £1500 laptop with 3.06GHz processor, for maximum future capabilities, and after all I will be using it for image editing, etc.

However I still want to make use of my £1499 laptop that I bought in about 1999 or thereabouts.

I decided to format and start again. It is 500MHz, 256Mb, 10Gb HDD and Windows 98.

However when I use it for a while, oddly it just cuts out and only the fan and backlight as well as a powerlight and HDD light are emmitted.

I left it alone but did not recover, so I restared, and it came back on. 20 mins later it did exactly the same!

I was told to test memory, remove Battery to no avil.

Anyone have anymore ideas?

Regards,
Gareth

I have done, all set to ALL on, and overheat protection is OFF!

Th fans seem to work anyway.

It could be any one of the 100's of components in your laptop that's failing when it gets warm. Sorry to be negative but it sounds like a job for a qualified engineer.

Thing is I can repair PC's

But laptops are so much harder.

So I will send it off for a £25 checkup, see if they find anything.

Gareth
