Not a problem only a puzzle

Occasionally when I open a folder of images, onto the desk top, [not from a program] ,particularly in an external folder [memory card or external HDD]
Instead of a screen of thumbnails of the differeing images, I am presented with a screen full of the same image, and here is the interesting bit,
this image in not only not in the folder, it is as far as I can be sure not currently on the computer or has been accessed in recent memory.
When a particular image is oprened however it displays what it should be.

As I say not a problem -but puzzeling

Sounds like some sort of error with the thumbnail indexing; one of the imponderables of XP.

Refresh the page ? this somtimes cures it.Or find the Thumbs.db file in the folder and delete it,it should make another for the files in there.
