Not booting after Windows update - help!

  DPD 18:22 17 Feb 06

PC has been working OK.
Got the yellow shield today to tell me that the latest MS security update available. I installed it and chose the "restart now" option. But it is now failing to boot.
When switching on I get the first usual black screen. Then I get the Highpoint screen [because I have a Rocket 133SB Controller because my MBd BIOS did not recognise large disks]- which then recognises the 2 hard disks. Then a 3rd black screen comes on with system info - and the PC freezes at that point.
Any advice please!?

Had a similar problem myself. Restored with recent Ghost Image.

Is Ghost image some form of backup?
If not part of XP, what else could I use?
