Not another problem?

I have been transfering files to cd through my cd writer,(because my hd is dying).I started to have writing problems for some reason, which,to be honest I didn't think much of,because it was completing the process, (I've checked using the other drive), until I tried to play a music cd.
Now,the sound is slow, distorted, and the sound clicks when the cd's play.Is my cd writer on its way out,and should I have ordered a new one with my hard drive

If it is,any suggestions.

Thanks in advance

Sadly, I think it may be on its way out.
I bought this one a few weeks ago - great value for money.

Thanks for your reply, was hoping that it wasn't on its way out.
Looks like I'm going to have alot of tinkering to do.

Just for reference, problem is sorted, a reinstall of the sound card software was all it needed.
