Norton versus Smart Restore

I have a Packard Bell with XP platform and am trying to get rid of unwanted unused software via the Smart Restore programme (as this is the only way of doing so). Smart Restore tells me do disable Norton, which I do before choosing the programmes to delete. But every blasted time the computer reboots up comes this red Norton window saying there is malicious script running and that the best action to take is to block it, which I do for safety's sake. Am I going to have to go into Norton options to disable Script Blocking in order to carry out uninstall in Smart Restore? or reinstall come to that? I have not much idea about script blocking so any help would be appreciated
