Norton subscription renewal not detected

I've just paid £20 to renew my Norton 'live update' on my computer(XP home sp2). The first problem was my renewal date didn't change, until I uninstalled, then re-installed Norton. This rectifeid my updated subscription, but the security centre gives me a warning now that says my Virus Checker is not activated. I,ve checked Norton, done a complete scan etc, but xp's security centre still tells me no virus checker enabled. Any ideas please!

I use the retail box version, where in the manual activation refers to the product key number being activated.

citadel I dont understand your answer, but I've sussed the solution to my problem, I think. 'live update' could not find my server. I rectified this by finding 'live update' folders on my hard drive,(you have to show hidden files & folders) and deleted all my 'live update' settings(be brave). Went into Classic View, to see Live update, double clicked, and on General tab clicked express mode, then ok. When I clicked on Live update, it found my server, xp Security centre now detected Mr Norton! Back onto folder options in my computer, to put them back onto default settings (hiding system files & folders) as per live update online instructions. As a Novice, this is one I want to frame, but I suppose someone will shoot me down, oh well.
