Norton Ghost

I am going going to format my pc and reinstall XP for reasons I won't go into now. If, once I've got my pc to the way I want it and use Norton Ghost to create an image of it, by using Norton Ghost wil it kind of format my pc back to the time I done the image? If you can understand what I mean!!

you mean that, you want to make a backup of you main drive and then if anything goes wrong in the future, you can reset it back to the original fresh install. if thats the case, yes nortons ghost will do that, just follow the instructions and then make a ghost floppy to boot from.
all instructions are there for what to do

click here for a good guide to Ghost.

If I use ghost does it take it back to its 'fresh install state' thus clearing everthing I have used, downloaded, internet history etc. just like a format would do?

It will take you back to the state your drive was in at the time of making the Ghost image.

Anything newer will be gone.
