Norton AV disabled sometimes, why?

running windows XP pro, AOL broadband, have mcaffee firewall and Norton AV 2002.
Every now and then when i start PC, norton AV auto protect is disabled, ie icon at bottom has a red cross through it. If I try to enable it it reports a script error and wont enable.
If I reboot its ok, this doesnt happen everytime but often

I had a similar problem a couple of weeks ago. In the end I un-installed Systemworks and re-installed it. For whatever reason, that appears to have fixed the problem.

Have you tried leaving it for a few moments to see if it activates, i.e. the red cross disappears? My parents run NAV 2002 and sometimes on boot-up the same thing happens, but after the PC has started all its background apps, NAV seems to catch up and the cross goes.

I did uninstall it and reinstall, downloaded all the updates but same thing.
Lead- no once it is disabled it stays disabled, I cant even enable it manually it reports a script error
