Norton AV autoprotect driving me nuts

Installing a program, Norton was scanning all the cab files etc and decided to hang, and hang and hang so I closed down Norton.

Lo and behold every 3 secs WARNING, WARNING WARNING autoprotect is turned off ( Yes I know, I turned it off), so clicked on button to say its OK, but whther the button was ticked or not, Warning every 3 secs.

Is there a way of turning this thing off, and not getting the warning.

I know it may be dangerous, but how if I disconnect from the internet when installing a program.

If its not solved, will be looking for an AV program that is a bit more forgiving.

Any help/advise greatly appreciated

thanks in anticipation

Set its status in the Services list to Disabled and see if that holds it back properly. Reboot after making the change. You may also achieve the same or a similar result from within msconfig. Run services.msc.

will give it go
