Instead of updating "NORTON SYSTEM WORKS" I would
prefer to purchase the latest Norton ANTI VIRUS.
Can anybody tel me if this is possible without
deleting System Works and just updating with the
latest version of Anti Virus apps.

Try symantecs web site or even email them. I have never had a problem getting advice from symantec.

Go into Add/Remove programmes and click the change/remove tab for Norton Systemworks. You will get an option to remove or change the setup. Click the Ant-Virus tab to make Anti-Virus unavailable. A re-boot may be necessary after you have removed the disk. When you install your new copy of Norton Internet Security it will integrate with Systemworks. Be warned though, I have found that the 2005 edition of Norton Internet Security does not like to install on a machine full of programmes and can present all types of problems. It orefers a 'clean' machine.
