Norton 360 Auto protect turns off

For some apparent reason, part way through being on the internet, I suddenly get the message and red flag to say that the Norton 360 Auto protect is turned off. I have been on to Norton's chat room and received all sorts of "solutions" but none have worked. I have uninstalled and re-installed to no avail. I wondered whether Skype may be affecting anything, so I have uninstalled that as well and so far (1 day) I have not received the dreaded red flag, but today I have heard from somebody who has just suffered exactly the same problem as me, which got me wondering whether this is a known problem with Norton 360. It really is a pain because I'm reluctant to go on line with this situation prevailing. Any ideas, please?

Since there has been no response to my post, can I assume that this is a rare problem?
