you could use a usb wireless ethernet card like this click here or you could use a pcmcia socket but you should know which type os pcmcia slot it is cardbus, type 1, type 2 etc. once you know the name of the slot on your machine just phone your online retailer and ask them to check compatibility.

For laptop, it is better to get a wireless PCMCIA wireless card which cost around 20 pounds. Win98 support for USB is not very good.
