Noisy cpu fan

I have an old pc with a 1Ghz processor that I want to turn into a NAS.
The problem I have is the cpu fan is so noisy. I've lifted the label and re-oiled it but it still makes a racket.
I want to replace it with a new quiet one but need some advice.
It is connected to the motherboard directly with a plastic connector and seems to have a small plastic 'lever' on the side of the connector. The fan then screws into the heatsink directly.
How do I remove the fan connector? Does it just pull off? I don't want to apply too much pressure yet without knowing if I am doing the right thing.
Also can anyone recommend a quiet fan to replace it with?
Thanks

As its a Old PC the CPU may be one that needs a good blower as old CPU's run Hot. So if you change it it needs to be able to cool the CPU or it will burn out

Thanks for the info guys.

woodchip - the fans at Maplins all seem to have the heatsink attached. Is it possible to just buy the fan?

Thanks

What would you consider a quiet fan? I've seen some for 25dBA.

Is this quiet?

Thanks
