I was trying to run the system file checker by entering sfc/scannow in command prompt. It starts off ok but then asks for the Windows CD. I do not have a Windows CD as my computer came with Windows pre-installed. I also wounderd if I ever wanted to replace my hard drive, would I be able to transfer Windows from one to the other as I belive it's partitioned off, or have I got it wrong? Running Windows XP home SP2.

When pre-installed, windows files often live in a folder named C:\I386

If you've been reading previous postings to this forum, eg click here

etc then you'll see the idea of tronsferring your XP is quite a contentious point. However if you explain that your motherboard failed damaging your processor then Microsoft might let you re-register....
