Uninstall then re-install the sound driver, see if it defaults to a working mode.

How do I do this, is my sound board seperate from my mother board, I have a dell system unsure.
I have thought and I have done something last week. My virus scanner picked up a Troyan, it adviced I went back to a date when everthing was ok,I went back only 3 days, everything seemed ok.
AVS found the virus and got rid of it.

It's possible from my research that you might have a sound blaster 2 sound card fitted. So go to the creative web site and run the auto update software click here
