No sound for WMP

  pcbobby 14:47 18 Feb 10

OS XP Home sp2
circuit board. American Megatrends.

I reinstalled XP and installed the video and sound drivers.
The sound and audio devices on the Control Panel display info.
The speaker icon in system tray is open.
The desktop speakers are switched on.
Win media player 11 recognises CD and displays info.

But there is no sound when CD is played.

What have I not done right?

Appreciate any advice offered.
Thank you

Have you had the case open at all and knocked out the sound lead from the cd drive to the motherboard?

Do you have more than one dvd/cd drive?

Thank you Jollyjohn.
Yes, to both questions.
I may have touched the card when removing and inserting new wireless card.

I have two drives. Top is D DVD
Bottom ie E CD RW etc

checked both drive leads, they are firmly fixed.

All other cards abd cables appear fine.

Used laptop to send last message.

I have now restarted Desktop PC, perhaps pressing down on all cables when case was open has resolved problem!!
All sound is working fine now!
Thank you.
