No sound on starting up

I have a PC running Windows XP Home. When I start the PC for the first time each day (i.e. turn on the mains, then the PC) I get no sound. When I go to Device Manager & Sound Controllers, my drivers are not listed.
If I then restart the computer (without turning it off at the mains) the drivers appear:
NVIDIA Audio Codec Interface
NVIDIA nForce MPC Audio processing Unit.
It is very annoying having to start the computer twice each day.
I would be most grateful for some assistance in rectifying this.

Are there any updated drivers available that you can install?

In device manager do you have any yellow question marks next to any expanded Sound/video/game controllers?
