no sound from speakers

  march 12:02 06 Aug 10

have vista & using realtek high definition my problem is there is no sound coming from speakers

have checked under sounds & it says they are working
tried test under sounds selecting each speaker
also checked they are plugged in correct & are not on mute & drivers are up to date
tried headphones in front jack but no sounds coming through those either

no yellow marks under devices

has anyone any ideas what else I could try please?

thanks march

Click on Control Panel>Hardware and Sound>Sound.

You should get a window that displays your audio devices: probably speakers, Digital Audio, and headphones (or similar).

Plug your switched-on speakers in and select Speakers. Click the Set Default button.

You should now find that when you plug your speakers into the jack socket, the sound comes from them; when you unplug them it should come from the computer's own speakers.

to fix the problem you can try one of the following:

1. If you are using self-powered USB speakers, remove the USB cable and plug it into a different USB port.

2. If you have an add-on sound card and none of the hardware or software fixes helps, you may have to replace the sound card

3. Re-install the audio drivers

3. can also try to re-store the system in previous settings

Have you opened Realtek HD Audio Manager and checked that your speakers are set as the default device.

Pineman100 & BRYNIT, kristain

speakers are set to default
have tried unplugging and plugging in again
also tried system restore

speakers are in correct and power light is on
and says speakers are working correct under control panel, 'sounds'

I'm starting to wonder whether you have a faulty jack socket.
