No sound from Sound Card

  Pompey 16:14 11 Apr 05

I have a Creative SB PCI 128 sound card. For some time now ther has been no sound on my machine. I have looked at everything I can think of, all the reports say the device is working normally, but today I clicked on Start-Run and typed in dxdiag which I read in another post, clicked on the Sound tab, and after clicking on the Test button, it came up with the undermentioned information:

"DirectSound test results: Failure at step 19 (User verification of software): H Result = 0x00000000 (error code)"

Does anybody know what this means, please? My OS is Win 2000 Pro on an AMD Athlon processor with 256mb ram.

Many thanks for response, Recap. I have looked at those suggestions, but after reading two Knowledge Base articles re problems with sound after upgrading from Win 98 to Win 2000 Pro (which I did), I think it is probably time to update my sound card.

Many thanks for that, Fruit Bat, the article looks interesting. I am just about to go on holiday for a few days, but on my return will have a go.
