No Sound Device

  Maltman 19:08 07 Oct 04

I recently had a major problem after installing SP2. Computer is now working fine except windows media player tells me that it cannot find a sound device. I did have Realtek AC97 Controller but Belarc Advisor tells me that it is no longer there. Checking the add remove programmes shows the drivers are still there. How can I get my sound device back?

try uninstalling and reninstalling it.

Then try Win Update for new driver.

just had the same prob due to re-formatting. Go to start>control panel>system>hardware>device manager>sound, video, game controllers and you should see your AC soundcard there. Right click or view the toolbar icon to install the driver.
Hope this works.

Thanks to both for the suggestions. Tracked it down to the Bios - the controller had been disabled for some unknown reason.
